Northern Ireland

The next part of our journey was probably the most challenging, but somehow we all remained calm and had no problems.  We left Scotland, and had to change trains once before arriving at our ferry that would take us across the water to Ireland.  Once we arrived we had to make our way to a train (that they held for our family to make it before having to wait an hour for the next one).  There was a bomb threat, probably due to the fact that we were there during the Protestant festivities.  They were celebrating their independence from the Catholic southern Irish.  So we got off and split up on a double Decker bus.  I was on the top with the kids and hoping that Brian made it on the bottom level.  Aaron fell asleep, and Maya was not even 2, so somehow, through all the shirtless drunk Irishman I got all three kids off the bus by myself.  We finally got to our hotel, and we were starving.

We went into a restaurant, and they said they were closing for the parades.  The only place we could find that was serving food was a bar in the hotel.  We ate some bar food, and were happy with that.  After watching some of the parade (lots of buff Irish pica-lo players) we decided to go to sleep since we had a big day tomorrow.

The train into Belfast.

After researching Ireland I was intrigued by the Giant's Causway and I really wanted to see the hexagonal rocks.  I wasn't sure if we'd be up for much more at the end of our stay, so I wanted to at least see some of Ireland's countryside.  I also wanted to go over the Carack Fisharman's rope bridge, even though Brian was a little scared about that.  The breathtaking views and amazing landscape made the day trip worth it, and even better was that our bus was headed to Dublin afterwards, so we ended up paying a little extra and staying on into Dublin, instead of having to catch another train down.  The only downside was that we could have used more time.
